What Is Sublimation Ink and How Does It Work?

Sublimation ink is a dye-based ink that turns into gas when heated to 190-200°C — bonding directly with polyester fibers at the molecular level. The print becomes part of the fabric, not a layer on top. It is used on polyester fabrics, coated metals, ceramics, and poly-coated hard surfaces like mugs and phone cases. The result: vibrant, permanent prints that will not crack, peel, or fade.

How Does INKBANK Sublimation Ink Compare?

INKBANK sublimation ink delivers 4-5 color fastness after 100+ industrial washes, transfers at 200-220°C in 35-60 seconds, and is batch-tested for color consistency across 40,000 tons of annual production. Here is what that means for your production line:

Color Consistency

Spectrophotometer-verified per batch

ΔE < 2.0 between production runs. Your 50th order matches your first. No color drift during long print runs.

Printhead Safety

Nano-filtered to D90 < 250nm

Tested on 500+ devices across Epson, Kyocera, and Ricoh platforms. No nozzle dropout after 48-hour idle.

Batch Documentation

QC data sheet with every shipment

Viscosity, surface tension, particle size D50/D90, pH, and color density. Full traceability from production batch to your door.

Multi-Substrate

One formulation, many products

Sportswear, flags, home decor, promotional gifts, signage, and poly-coated hard goods. Fewer SKUs, simpler inventory.

Before You Order: 5 Questions Every Ink Buyer Should Ask

A supplier's website can claim anything. These five questions separate a manufacturer from a middleman. A real manufacturer answers them before you finish asking.

Ask the SupplierWhat a Real Manufacturer Answers
"Can I see your R&D lab — live on video?""Here is a link. Our lead chemist will walk you through." If they hesitate, they do not have a lab.
"Send me the QC data sheet for the batch my sample came from."PDF arrives in 10 minutes: viscosity, surface tension, particle size D50/D90, pH, color density. Five parameters, one page.
"How many test printers do you own? Which printhead models?""We run 500+ devices — Epson I3200/I1600, DX5/DX7, Kyocera KJ4, Ricoh GEN5/GEN6, Konica 1024i." A number under 20 is a red flag.
"What are your certification numbers? Can I verify them online?"Numbers provided immediately — verifiable on oeko-tex.com and the ZDHC Gateway. If they will not give you a certificate number, the logo on their site is decoration.
"Can you reference a customer in my region?""We supply a sportswear manufacturer in [your region] producing [X] garments/month since [year]." Even anonymized, it proves they ship where you are.

These certifications meet EU textile brand requirements and eliminate customs friction for European importers. Full REACH compliance and ZDHC MRSL Level 3 certification also apply across all INKBANK ink lines.

How long does sublimation ink last in storage? +

INKBANK sublimation ink has a 12-month shelf life when stored in sealed containers at 5–35°C away from direct sunlight. Dye-based sublimation inks naturally degrade more slowly than pigment-based inks. Every shipment includes a batch-level Certificate of Analysis with viscosity and particle size data. Once opened, use within 3–6 months depending on printer environment.
